Not just the Ag Teacher- National FFA Convention Week
When most people think about an educator they think about the classroom. An educator is a part of more than just a classroom. They are fathers, mothers, farmers, business people, and community members.
Some students may find it odd to see a teacher outside the classroom at the grocery store, sporting events, or at the county fair. However, for Mr. Heyler and Mr. Boyer it is never odd the see them in the community or at events. Mr. Heyler is the Assistant Chief Fireman for Westfield Fire Department. Mr. Boyer is the Cowanesque Valley High Schools Athletic Director. They both have families and other duties at home. They have crazy schedules but manage them well because they love everything they do.
You can see their interaction within the community and how it brings a positive attitude to the Agriculture Department at Cowanesque Valley High School. As students are leaving for the day they will say "Have a good weekend Mr. Heyler" or "See you tonight Mr. Boyer." This is followed by knuckle punches, high fives, or hugs.
When you are an educator you are much more than just the classroom you teach in. You are apart of the community and make a positive impact on students lives. You give them guidance and someone to look up to. When I teach I hope to one day have as much involvement and support from my own schools community.
Heather, your cooperating teachers will be great resources to help you get connected to your school and local community in Tioga County. What are some things you plan to do to get to know the students and families you will be working with?
