Engaging with Students in National FFA Convention

The National FFA Convention & Expo is a sea of blue jackets. FFA members from all across the nation, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico come together to celebrate their accomplishments and find inspiration. During October 25th-28th concerts, keynote speakers, workshops, and agriculture industry opportunities are all present. National FFA Convention is going on, but for those students that did not make it out to Indiana this year I have found ways to engage them in events. The National FFA Organization has great resources for any student or educator missing this years event.

The National FFA Organization and RFD TV come together to live broadcast session, events, and more (https://www.ffanewhorizons.org/home/live-streams/). Being able to have access to these broadcast and live streams gives those not at National FFA Convention an opportunity to still engage and participate in events.

This year I did not have the opportunity to attend the National FFA Convention; however, I was still able to engage the Agricultural Science students at Cowanesque High School in events going on there. The students in the class are mainly freshman and have not yet had the opportunity to learn a lot about the FFA. During class Mr. Boyer and I played the Opening Session for the students. We asked them to pay attention to opening ceremonies because it will be something they will learn more about in December. We asked that if they had more time to watch the finals for Creed Public Speaking because they will also be presenting that in December too. The students at Cowanesque Valley High School are excited for there FFA unit and are full with many questions.

They are inspired by FFA and all it has to offer!

  1. National convention is the best way to showcase what this organization is all about! Passion, diversity, growth, and community! I love that you could engage those kids from a distance - I couldn't go either... but the live stream didn't work for me to show my students! 😥

    1. Hopefully you get to make your way out to Nationals next year! The live stream is a great tool to use when it works. It would be great to look back on convention when the National FFA Organizations upload all of the final videos.

  2. Glad you were able to engage your students in National Convention activities even if they wouldn't be there! Hopefully you will be attending next year with your own students!
