Northern Region PAAE Meeting

I have a strong appreciation for both the National Associations of Agriculture Educators (NAAE) and the Pennsylvania Association of Agriculture Educators (PAAE) and their willingness to accept the student teachers of the profession. Since I have started participating in PAAE or NAAE event I have grown to appreciate the network of teachers, mentors and friends that I have been able to establish across the state or the nation.

On April 4th, I enjoyed engaging in discussion with veteran agriculture educators. Not only does it give me an opportunity to be reminded of the power of an expansive professional network, but it reminds me of the reasons why I chose this profession.

The Cowanesque Valley crew made our way to the Northern Region PAAE meeting to enjoy a meal with fellow ag teachers and discuss important events and business. Here were a few highlights from the evening meeting...

·         Officer Reports- President, Neil Fellenbaum was present at the Northern Region meeting. Mr. Fellenbaum spoke on behalf of the executive committee to give an update on the board meeting. Also, he spoke about the Ag Ed Showcases. Bald Eagle and Cumberland Valley hosted this year and we able to have
·         PAAE –Mr. Fellenbaum, joined us and share updates on committee development and growth. Additionally, reminding everyone of upcoming dates and deadlines to participate in PAAE functions.
·         PA FFA – After the State FFA Officer and Mr. Brammer began the program for the State Officer Candidacy School (S.O.C.S.) participants, Mr. Brammer joined us to share an update on changes to applications and competitions for FFA.
·         Center for Professional & Personnel Development – Following PAAE and PA FFA updates, the Center for Professional & Personnel Development shared about the many opportunities of professional development workshops and conferences that they are hosting for pre-service teacher, new & beginning teachers, and experienced teachers.

At the PAAE Northern Regional meeting there is an immense amount of information given to the ag education community. I value paying dues and being an active participant in this professional organizations. In an industry like agriculture, it is important to actively seek out these organizations to ensure that we are the most relevant educators possible.
