Making a Home- National FFA Convention Week

Starting in January I will officially begin my journey as a 2018 student teacher. This week has given me the opportunity to adventure and get lost in Tioga County Pennsylvania. The students, staff and community of Cowanesque Valley High School have been super support of my Teach Ag Journey beginning here.

Westfield, Pennsylvania is nowhere close to resembling my hometown of State College, Pennsylvania. During my time here, I have already gotten lost in my short commute home from the high school because cell phone service is questionable at times (I will be investing in a garmin gps in the future). I have learned that you do not speed in northern Pennsylvania for two reasons. First reason being that there are more dirt roads than main highways in Tioga County. And the second reason being the pot holes are big enough to ruin the my axles in my Jeep. Although, there is sometimes no service and the roads are not in perfect condition the sights of Tioga County are beautiful.

In just three days, I have had many housing options presented to me. I have also been introduced to community businesses/partners that I can work with while I am here.  In three days, I have realized that my time spent for student teaching will not be all about the lesson plans or instructional time spent in the Cowanesque Valley High School agriculture shop and classroom. I have learned it is about so much more!  I have seen that the community is what makes an agricultural program strong.

  1. Heather, Tioga County sounds like a neat place! What are you most looking forward to when it comes to living there? What do you see being the biggest positive different from State College?
