How do we design and plan instruction?
In the summary for Part II of Methods and Learning it suggest that thorough design and planning instruction allows for "flexibility and spontaneity because the goal or end product are always in sight and serve to refocus the teacher and learners." Allowing flexibility to be possible in the classroom allows for success among the students and teacher.
Flexibility in the classroom helps the students by engaging each one at any learning levels. Also, by being flexible it opens the environment in the classroom to feel safe. In turn, this will engage the students. An open learning environment will encourage students to ask questions or ask for help. Having a flexible classroom enriches success among the student.
Flexibility in the classroom helps the teacher by gaging the students understanding on the lesson. In a blog post by John McCarthy he states "I do an activity where I ask participants to stand and reach as high as they can. Then, I ask them to reach even higher. They do. When considering your students' needs, reach even higher in your practice -- that extra stretch is inside us all -- and students will benefit."
Thorough design and planning of instruction allows for success! Next time I go to make a lesson plan it is my goal to allow flexibility and spontaneity.
