Engaging Instruction
As a former student in a high school agricultural program and a future educator; I understand the importance of writing instructional objectives, and how crucial they are for the student learner. A student not being given instruction is like a student being dropped in the middle of a 50 acre corn field with no instruction, no map, no compass, and only a few minuets to get out. If I was not given objectives of a lessons in high school I would have been set up for failure. That is why as a future educator I plan to utilize objectives in my classroom to further student understanding.
Learning objectives help educators sequence instruction and plan a lesson. Objectives can also be classified as an end goal for learner. If an educator knows the level of understanding they want a student to have on a subject they can make it possible with the content being given in the lesson. This helps educators define what material is relevant and worthy to the student. Objectives help measure a students understanding of content.
Learning objectives communicate to students what they should be able to do and know at the end of a lesson. An example of this is the posted objectives above. The students should be able to connect the learning material with the objectives. Students are driven to learn by desire.
I can not think of a day when I taught a lesson that I did not have objectives. Objectives helped guide me as an instructor and my students through lessons. Objectives engage instruction when they are clear and measurable to both the educator and learner!
